Japanese Cedar Fencing
Hand-built Japanese cedar fencing that weathers to silver-gray and lasts 20+ years in Texas heat.
Japanese cedar fencing is a step above pressure-treated pine. We source kiln-dried cedar, hand-select boards for grain and color, and build each fence on-site. The wood naturally resists rot and insects without heavy chemicals. In The Woodlands, where humidity and heat break down cheaper materials fast, cedar holds up. We space the boards to let air flow through, which keeps the wood from trapping moisture against your posts.
Cedar ages beautifully in our climate. The first year it's honey-gold. By year two or three, it silvery-weathers to a soft gray that looks intentional, not neglected. We can seal it if you want to keep the color, but most customers we work with let it go natural. The wood gets harder as it ages, not softer. We build with stainless steel hardware so fasteners don't rust and stain the boards.
You get a fence that looks good from day one and only improves with time. No paint peeling in our humidity. No boards cupping or warping like pressure-treated does. It's a real material that develops character. We handle the whole build, from layout to final post setting. Most customers notice neighbors asking who built theirs.
About japanese cedar fencing
Will my cedar fence need sealing or staining?
No. Cedar naturally weathers and protects itself. If you want to keep the honey color instead of letting it silver-gray, we can apply a clear sealer, but it requires reapplication every 2 to 3 years. Most owners skip it and enjoy the aging process.
How long does Japanese cedar last in The Woodlands?
Twenty to thirty years with normal weather. The main enemy is ground contact and poor drainage. We set posts deep in concrete and slope the grade away from your fence line so water doesn't pool. That's why the build matters as much as the material.
How does cedar compare to vinyl or metal?
Cedar costs less upfront than vinyl and looks warmer than metal. It needs no paint, but it will weather. If you want zero maintenance, vinyl is the call. If you want a fence that gets better looking over time, cedar is the choice.
